Custom Paintings

Monday, June 23, 2014 11:45:26 AM America/New_York

This morning I take the time of strolling baby outside after sedentary working for more than 1 hour and glanced a small old picture of a lady framed with around 4x6" simple frame, on the table of our neighbor's house. Very sweet! Wait a minute, if this neighbor knows what I am doing, custom oil paintings, to conserve their picture for generations, will he immediately hand it over to me and pay me some 100 bucks to paint it in oil? I dared not come up to introduce my business. Maybe just keep it online. Too commercial if I venture to sell it to neighbors, even I believe our business is one of the best in this business in United States.

100% Handmade with a Projector

Tuesday, February 25, 2014 2:33:21 PM America/New_York

I feel the following blog mertis a rebroadcasting so that I republish it today. Hope you enjoy it.

The other day, a customer, who is quite professional, had conversation with me about 100% hand-making topic. He is curious about the process of 100% handmade paintings.

I told him that in pure term of art, our studio still has element of cheating as we are using a projector to trace the lines and positions of a painting by enlarging the photo onto the canvas or paper. Comparing to giclee print, this seems primitive. While many online painting providers argue that since we have computer print, why are we using backward method of projector.

I Earned a Job for USA

Friday, January 10, 2014 4:33:37 PM America/New_York

In Photo to Painting business, as it is an online business, whoever can make an ordering procedure suitable with combination of different options (by the way, it necessitates around more than 10,000 options in ordering) of artistic painting as well as framing, plus SEO efforts, can find a foothold in this business, for which, around 80% of orders in the whole world are coming from the USA, still the richest country in the world in terms of consuming art work.

In the past few years, MYSQL and PHP, ASP webpage writing is an daunting obstacle for many laymen to online business. In the following years, I believe, as the open source of WordPress, Magento, Jumla, as well new ready-to-integrate shopping carts are available for online business, there will be more and more online stores looming.

At this junction, I should say, I earn a job for America. My photo to painting business starts to make me a living after a half year's effort s in building website, search engine optimization and online marketing. I bring much closer the customers in the USA and the artists from worldwide in the quickest manner to communicate their specific demand, tailoring inquiries, and painting and drawing questions. When such gap is narrowed, productivity is enhanced, as the satisfaction of customers is heightened because their demand is more accurately satisfied. In other words, they spend less money in my store, but their demand is better served. This is the typical evolving process of each business or industry. With such constant entrepreneurial efforts, consumers get more by spending less, thanks to the driving force of entrepreneurial innovation.

On the other hand, from my observation, many online stores are from overseas rather than American continent. I believe it is due to lower living cost in other countries such as India (where both SEO and website building are not rare source), and Singapore, to start a business. I remember when I was in China, I didn’t have so many bills to pay when I started my small business some ten years ago. In comparison, here in the U.S., high costs of medical insurance, living (as I want to put my kid in good school, the living cost is even higher), exert more pressure for small business that usually barely profits in the first half year of establishment.

Xmas and New Year Holidays

Friday, January 3, 2014 4:43:32 PM America/New_York

For Photo to Painting niche market, each Christmas would have around 6,000 to 8,000 orders, according to our online research and sampling investigation to various online providers. Among such 6k to 8k, half would come from the U.S. In fact, during regular season, more than 80% orders are from the U.S. In 2014, there are around 3k to 4k orders from American consumers.

This season of Xmas consumption of photo to painting started a bit later than previous years, however, the frenzy remains the same as every year. Many customers would order a difficult people portrait a few days before Xmas, as an personalized gift to their special relatives, family members, dear friends, and so on.

Xmas season officially ended on Dec. 15- Dec. 17 this years, although some online providers still put their ad on Google that they still accepted order during the period between De. 15- Dec. 17. In fact, only pencil and charcoal orders were possible in such a short period.

After Xmas 2013, there were still orders placed now and then, sparse, but as like regular seasons.

Real break was after Xmas and before New Year! It seems everything is completely off, including my mood of working. New Year Holiday is over. Let us embrace a new fresh start of 2014.

Projector Vs Giclee Print, 100% Handmade or Not

Thursday, November 28, 2013 11:17:44 AM America/New_York

Comparing to giclee print, this seems primitive. While many online painting providers argue that since we have computer print, why are we using backward method of projector.

Many art historians prove that Johannes Vermeer, creator of famous masterpiece Girl with a Pearl Earring, The Milkmaid (c. 1658), The Music Lesson or A Lady at the Virginals with a Gentleman, c. 1662–65; Vermeer, The Girl with the Wine Glass (c. 1659), etc., had utilized a certain type of projector with a few lens combined to project the real person onto canvas, and traced the line of features and crease of drapery, rendering his paintings outstanding in terms of details and perspective, by comparing to his contemparory artists.
